This school year I decided to try out a family theme and see how it works for us. After a few thoughts, Brandon and I settled on "I Can Do Hard Things." We introduced it on Monday for our Family Night. Brandon had the boys do different challenges while I was making dinner. They had to see how many push ups they could do, how fast they could put a puzzle together, how many steps away from dad they could catch a football, how many jumpropes in a row they could do, and how fast they could ride their bike around the church.
Camryn was happy watching it all...
Then, we had a fun dinner. Some of the boys' favorite foods with "hard" utensils to eat them with. Including, drinking lemonade from bottles with newborn nipples (mom, does your computer block my blog now because I just wrote that word in it? My parents have a really strict and awesome web protection). Anyway, the boys loved the dinner and kept saying, "This is hard." My plan was working.
After dinner, we all joined in on round 2 of the challenges, where the boys had to beat their first scores. The point, of course, was to make it hard for them to do. Once they beat each score they recieved a sealed envelope. After they had all the envelopes, they opened them up and put together the theme. Then we talked a little bit about it and reminded them of the hard things they already have done and we each signed the poster. It was a successful night. Now, hopefully that carries on throughout the year!
